We need your help!

While the need for our services has increased over the last several years, our funding has decreased.

When the community invests in Legal Aid Works®, we turn that money around to give our clients equal access to justice. In recent years, we have helped our clients receive court-ordered awards of wrongfully denied benefits totaling up to 2.6 million dollars.

Without our intervention, clients would not have been able to receive the unemployment payments, spousal/child support, or SSI benefits to which they were entitled.

Neighborhood Assistance Program

Virginia State Tax Credits Explained:

PROGRAM PURPOSE:
This program was established in 1981 by the Virginia General Assembly and works to encourage businesses, trusts or individuals to make donations directly to Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations whose primary function is providing services to a low-income person.
ELIGIBILITY:
Individuals may be eligible for a state tax credit on net donations of at least $500 and businesses may be eligible for a tax credit on a net donation of at least $616.  PayPal charges a 2.7% fee for processing online donations; to qualify for a state tax credit, your total donation should factor in those fees in order to meet the threshold for a minimum donation. A donation made of $1,000 or more will qualify for tax credits up to 65% of the donation. Any gift below $1,000, will qualify for tax credits up to 50% of the value of the donation.
Tax Credits may be offered up to the maximum of 65% of the value of the qualifying donation or professional service.
Legal Aid Works receives a limited number of tax credits at the beginning of each fiscal year and offers them to qualifying  businesses, professional services (mostly pro bono legal work), individuals and trusts on a first-come, first-serve basis.
